What
is welding rod litigation?
Recent medical studies have confirmed what the welding rod industry has known for years; there is a link between welding fumes and Parkinson’s Disease. Many welding fume induced Parkinson’s suffers have never actually welded, but frequently worked near fumes. Welders, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, automobile production and repair workers, and steel workers are among the many trades exposed to welding fumes.
Cause
and Effect
Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive, debilitating destruction of the central nervous system resulting in hand tremors, muscle tightness, muscle rigidity, memory failure, mood disorders, difficulty walking, halted or impaired speech and a variety of other problems. There is no cure for Parkinson’s Disease. For some people there is no explanation why they develop Parkinson’s Disease. For others the explanation is clear; they suffer manganism or manganese induced Parkinson’s Disease

Medical
Research
Medical research has long confirmed a relationship between manganese exposure and injury to the basal ganglia, a part of the brain which controls muscle function. There have been over 20 research studies discussing and establishing the relationship between manganese exposure and injury to the central nervous system. Most welding rods contain manganese. The question has always been whether there was enough manganese in welding fumes to produce symptoms of manganese poisoning or Parkinson’s Disease. Welding rod manufacturers have long denied that exposure to welding fumes causes Parkinson’s Disease. Their denial was made despite their knowledge of medical and research studies proving a relationship between welding fumes and Parkinson’s disease.
Who
needs to be examined?
Goldenberg, Heller & Antognoli represents workers injured by exposure to welding fumes. Many workers suffer the effects of years of welding fume exposure without realizing they have either early stage Parkinson’s Disease or manganese poisoning. The two diseases are so similar they are often mis-diagnosed (or missed altogether). Only an examination by a qualified physician can determine if you have an injury caused by welding fumes. If you have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease or manganese poisoning or if you want to be examined by a physician then please contact our office at the earliest opportunity. The consultation is free.
The welding rod industry has been allowed to keep this vital health information concealed from workers for far too long. If you feel that your health has been compromised due to exposure to welding fumes, please give us a call. Our toll free number is 800-782-8492.
